Harvesting in the ash

Ólafur Eggertsson started experimental harvesting of grass grown from 3-4 centimeters of ash on June 8th.

About 2 tonnes of were sent to Stóra-Ármót for testing if the grass meets standards for feeding live stock. In coming days harvesting will continue on non fertilized fields. The amount of grass per hectare is less than normal but still adequate. The plan is to fertilize a few fields for the second harvest. About 38 hectares have been plowed and reworked for harvesting next year or some hopefully this year.

The Þorvaldseyri family would like to thank for the warm and positive feedback on the new website.
